Special Event July 26th, and summer meeting schedule

Hello all, here is our summer meeting schedule below  (please note that we will NOT be meeting on July 29th or August 26th).

ALSO, please help us spread the word about  our upcoming “special event”!

True Stories of Hope and Courage:

an  evening with Hattie Nestel, anti-nuclear activist and member of “Shut it Down” affinity group.

Thursday  July 26, 2012, 7 pm

In Great Barrington – Friends’ Meeting House on 280 State Road (Route 23)

Hattie will be sharing with us her inspiring stories and experience as an activist. Her affinity group, Shut it Down,  has engaged in civil resistance on twelve occasions since 2005 in continuing efforts to shut down the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant in Vernon. Members are all women, between the ages of 42 and 94, who repeatedly risk arrest in their efforts to protect the public from the dangers of nuclear power.

Hattie is also very knowledgeable about the safety issues involved in nuclear energy production, as well as the possibilities of safe energy alternatives.

Sunday, June 3, 1-4 pm
Food, music, marching, face painting, crafts, fun!

OccBerks will be rebooting our weekly Sunday Rally at Great Barrington Town Hall! Last fall these events were great times to get together in the sun, meet new people, discuss issues, and get organized. While much of that that has been continuing through the winter, is has been, sadly, inside and less visible. Time to change that! So come on out for the first of our Summer Great Barrington Rallies.

Jonah_with_Casey

This is a family friendly event, and all are welcome. There will be food, music, marching, crafts, and I’m sure some reconnecting. We’ll also be having a General Assembly to continue working on a range of projects from campaign financing and an amendment against corporate personhood, to the Housatonic River Cleanup, to growing and strengthening local communities through alternative currencies.
